Robin Jeffrey

Robin Jeffrey studied at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge and the Royal College of Music. A versatile performer on instruments of the lute and guitar families, he has played and recorded with many of the well-known names in the early music field, including The Sixteen, The King’s Consort, the Purcell Quartet and Red Byrd.

Robin has a long track record in opera and stage music. He has played in many   productions of Monteverdi, Purcell and Handel operas for English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, Glyndebourne and other companies. He has also performed extensively in productions for the  National Theatre, including The Beggar’s Opera, Peer Gynt and The Playboy of the Western World, and for Shakespeare’s Globe – most recently, Romeo and Juliet, Othello and the Merry Wives of Windsor.

Robin is a member of several groups, performing Jewish music with the Burning Bush, classical music of the Middle East with Mawwal, and traditional music of the British Isles with the New Scorpion Band. His playing of instruments such as the Arabian oud and Greek laouto has been heard on many television and film soundtracks, including The Passion of the Christ and Attila the Hun. His career has taken him to the U.S.A. and Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Japan, Australia and most countries in Europe.

Robin is married to Alessandra Testai, with whom he gives recitals of historical and traditional song, ranging from Baroque cantatas to songs of Constantinople and the Greek islands.
